Leukotriene modifiers

Leukotriene modifiers are medications used to prevent and manage asthma and allergies. They work by blocking substances called leukotrienes, which are produced by the body during allergic reactions and asthma attacks. Leukotrienes cause inflammation, airway narrowing, and increased mucus production, leading to breathing difficulties. By inhibiting their effects, these medications help reduce airway inflammation, improve breathing, and decrease the frequency of asthma attacks. They are usually taken daily as a preventative measure and are part of a comprehensive asthma management plan. Examples include montelukast and zafirlukast.
