Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ)
LGBTQ is an acronym that represents a diverse group of people related to their sexual orientation and gender identity. Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual describe different sexual orientations—lesbians are women attracted to women; gay typically refers to men attracted to men; bisexual individuals are attracted to more than one gender. Transgender refers to people whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. Queer is a broader term that some use to describe a flexible or non-normative understanding of gender and sexuality. Recognizing LGBTQ identities promotes respect, inclusion, and equality for all individuals.
