Les Poètes maudits

"Les Poètes maudits" (The Cursed Poets) is a term coined by French poet Paul Verlaine to describe a group of rebellious, misunderstood poets in the late 19th century. These poets challenged societal norms, often facing personal struggles like addiction, poverty, or mental health issues. They pursued artistic innovation and emotional honesty, defying conventional standards. Despite their talents, they were often criticized or marginalized, earning the reputation of being "cursed." Verlaine celebrated their uncompromising spirit and tragic lives, highlighting their intense creativity and the costs of nonconformity in a restrictive society.
