Leptin Resistance

Leptin resistance occurs when the brain no longer responds effectively to leptin, a hormone produced by fat cells that signals fullness and helps regulate appetite and metabolism. Despite high leptin levels, the brain mistakenly interprets the signals as if the body is starving, leading to increased hunger and decreased energy expenditure. This disruption can contribute to weight gain and difficulty losing weight, often seen in obesity. Factors like inflammation, high sugar intake, and lack of sleep may contribute to leptin resistance, making it a complex challenge in managing weight and metabolic health.
