Leningrad Blockade

The Leningrad Blockade was a prolonged military siege of the Soviet city of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) by Nazi Germany during World War II, from 1941 to 1944. The goal was to cut off supplies and force the city to surrender. The blockade caused severe food shortages, starvation, and suffering among residents. Despite this, the city’s defenders and civilians showed remarkable resilience, enduring nearly 900 days until the siege was broken. It remains one of the most tragic and heroic episodes of the war, symbolizing civilian endurance under extreme hardship.
