Leland Stanford

Leland Stanford was an American industrialist, politician, and philanthropist who co-founded the Central Pacific Railroad, helping to complete the first transcontinental railroad across the United States. He was also a U.S. Senator from California and served as the governor of the state. Stanford dedicated much of his wealth to education, founding Stanford University in California.
