Leiomyoma

Leiomyoma, commonly called a fibroid, is a benign (non-cancerous) growth that develops in the smooth muscle tissue of the uterus. These growths vary in size and number and are most common in women of reproductive age. While many fibroids cause no symptoms, they can sometimes lead to heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure, and issues with urination or bowel movements. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but factors like hormones and genetics may play a role. Treatment options range from monitoring to medications or surgery, depending on size, symptoms, and overall health.
