Legislative history of UETA

The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) was developed in the late 1990s to encourage the widespread use of electronic records and signatures in commerce. Its legislative history includes efforts by legal experts and state lawmakers to create a consistent legal framework across states, ensuring electronic transactions are recognized and enforceable. UETA was adopted gradually by individual states starting in the early 2000s, based on model legislation created by the Uniform Law Commission. The goal was to promote digital commerce while maintaining legal certainty, aligning traditional contract law with modern technology.
