Legislative Council of Ceylon
The Legislative Council of Ceylon was an early government institution established during British colonial rule to advise and assist in governing the island, now known as Sri Lanka. It included appointed and, later, elected representatives, serving as a platform for discussing laws and policies affecting the colony. Over time, it evolved to include more local participation, reflecting growing movements for self-governance. Its purpose was to balance colonial administrative interests with the increasing demands of the local population for political representation and autonomy.
