Legislative Council of British Columbia (historical)
The Legislative Council of British Columbia was the colonial governing body established in 1858 when the region was a British colony. It consisted of appointed officials, including the Governor and appointed members, to advise on laws and governance. The council operated as a precursor to the provincial legislature, enabling British authority to manage political and administrative affairs before the establishment of a more representative government. It was replaced in 1871 when British Columbia joined Canada, transitioning to a modern legislative assembly.
