Legionnaires
Legionnaires' disease is a serious lung infection caused by the bacteria Legionella. These bacteria thrive in warm, stagnant water, such as in large buildings' plumbing systems, cooling towers, or decorative fountains. When people inhale tiny water droplets containing the bacteria, they can develop pneumonia-like symptoms including cough, fever, and shortness of breath. It is not contagious through person-to-person contact but can be prevented by proper maintenance of water systems and prompt treatment with antibiotics. Awareness of potential sources and symptoms is important for early diagnosis and health protection.
