legal validity of e-signatures

E-signatures are legally valid when they meet certain standards established by law, such as the ESIGN Act and UETA in the U.S., or similar regulations elsewhere. They must demonstrate the signer’s intent to agree, be associated with the signed document, and be unique to the signer. Accepted forms include digital signatures, scanned handwritten signatures, or click-to-accept buttons. As long as parties agree to electronic methods and proper authentication is used, e-signatures hold the same legal weight as handwritten signatures, making electronic agreements enforceable in court.
