Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) therapy
A Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) is a small mechanical pump that helps the heart's left ventricle, which is responsible for pumping blood to the body. It is implanted through surgery and connected to the heart and the aorta, the main artery. LVADs are used for patients with severe heart failure as a short-term solution while waiting for a transplant, or as a long-term therapy when transplants aren't possible. The device continuously takes over the pumping function, improving blood flow, reducing symptoms, and increasing quality of life.
