Leap Day

Leap Day occurs every four years on February 29th, added to align our calendar with Earth's orbit around the Sun. A year normally has 365 days, but Earth's orbit takes about 365.24 days. Without correction, calendars would gradually drift out of sync. To fix this, an extra day is inserted during leap years, making that year 366 days long. This adjustment helps keep our calendar aligned with the seasons, ensuring, for example, that holidays or events stay in their usual time of year.
