Leadership Substitutes Theory
Leadership Substitutes Theory suggests that certain factors within a team or situation can replace or diminish the need for a leader's direct involvement or guidance. For example, highly skilled, motivated team members, clear goals, or strong organizational norms can serve as substitutes, making a leader's role less crucial. Conversely, some factors, like task uncertainty, increase the need for leadership. Essentially, the theory recognizes that leadership effectiveness depends not just on the leader but also on the environment and team dynamics, which can either support or hinder leadership impact.
