Le Corti

Le Corti are specialized sensory cells located in the cochlear (inner ear) that are vital for hearing. They sit on the basilar membrane inside the cochlea and have tiny hair-like structures called stereocilia. When sound waves cause vibrations, these vibrations move the basilar membrane and bend the stereocilia. This bending generates electrical signals that are sent to the brain via the auditory nerve. Essentially, Le Corti act as transducers, converting mechanical sound vibrations into electrical signals, allowing us to perceive and interpret sounds in our environment.
