Lazarus syndrome
Lazarus syndrome, also known as autoresuscitation, occurs when a person who has been declared dead after CPR unexpectedly starts breathing again without any medical intervention. It is extremely rare and thought to happen because of delayed effects of chest compressions or redistribution of blood and oxygen to the brain. This phenomenon challenges the finality of death diagnoses and highlights the importance of careful observation before confirming death. While it can be startling, Lazarus syndrome does not imply a cure for underlying conditions; it is a rare, unpredictable event in emergency medicine.
