
Layered Caching
Layered caching is a strategy used to speed up data access by storing copies of information at different levels within a system. The closest layer, often called the cache, holds recent or frequently accessed data for quick retrieval. Next layers may include larger, slower storage like databases or remote servers. When a request for data is made, the system first checks the fastest cache. If the data isn’t there, it moves to the next layer, and so on, reducing latency and improving performance overall. This layered approach balances speed, resource use, and data consistency across multiple storage levels.
