Lawyers Movement

The Lawyers' Movement was a collective effort by Pakistani lawyers and civil society from the late 20th century onwards, aiming to restore the rule of law and strengthen democracy. It emerged in response to authoritarian regimes that undermined judicial independence, notably during the military rule of General Musharraf. The movement sought to restore ousted judges, challenge unconstitutional actions, and promote the independence of the judiciary. It played a pivotal role in safeguarding democratic institutions, culminating in the reinstatement of the judiciary’s independence and contributing significantly to Pakistan’s political and constitutional evolution.
