Lawful permanent resident

A lawful permanent resident (LPR) is a person who has been granted the right to live and work indefinitely in a country, typically the United States, without being a citizen. LPRs receive a green card, which serves as proof of their status. They can travel, work for any employer, and access certain benefits but must adhere to immigration laws. Unlike citizens, LPRs cannot vote in federal elections and must renew their status periodically. LPR status can be obtained through family sponsorship, employment, or humanitarian programs, and can eventually lead to citizenship.
