Law of Manu
The Law of Manu, also known as Manusmriti, is an ancient Hindu text that outlines social and moral laws. It describes a hierarchical society where people are categorized into four main groups—Brahmins (priests and teachers), Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers), Vaishyas (merchants and farmers), and Shudras (servants and laborers). The text emphasizes duties, conduct, and responsibilities appropriate to each class, promoting social order. While historically influential, some teachings reflect outdated ideas about social roles and equality. Today, it is studied for historical and cultural insights but is viewed critically regarding its social implications.
