Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act
The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) is a federal law that allows qualified current and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms nationwide, regardless of state or local laws. It aims to enhance officer safety by providing legal protection when carrying a firearm off duty or outside their primary jurisdiction. To qualify, officers generally must meet certain standards, including ongoing training and mental fitness requirements, and carry proper identification. LEOSA balances personal safety with public safety, enabling authorized officers to defend themselves and others consistently across state lines.
