Lautering
Lautering is a process used in brewing to separate the liquid wort from the solid grain material after mashing. During mashing, grains are mixed with hot water to extract sugars. In lautering, the mixture is transferred to a vessel with a filter bed or a false bottom that allows the liquid wort to pass through while holding back the spent grains. The wort is then drained off for boiling and brewing, leaving the residual grains behind. This step ensures a clear, sugar-rich liquid for the next stages of beer production.
