Latin phonology

Latin phonology is the study of how Latin sounds and pronunciation patterns work. It involves understanding the sounds of vowels and consonants, how they are articulated, and how they are stressed in words. Latin had a relatively clear and consistent pronunciation system, with five main vowels (a, e, i, o, u) that could be short or long, affecting meaning. Consonants included typical sounds like 'k', 'g', 't', 'm', and some unique ones. Stress usually fell on the penultimate (second-to-last) syllable. Overall, Latin phonology helps us accurately pronounce and understand ancient Latin texts.
