Lateral Moraine

A lateral moraine is a ridge of debris, such as rocks and dirt, that forms along the sides of a glacier. As the glacier moves or melts, it carries material deposited from the valley walls, building up on its edges. These ridges mark the former boundary between the glacier and the valley walls, helping to visualize the glacier's size and movement history. Lateral moraines are useful for understanding past glacial activity and landscape changes over time.
