Latent TB Infection (LTBI)

Latent TB Infection (LTBI) occurs when a person has been exposed to the tuberculosis bacteria, but the bacteria are inactive and not causing symptoms. In this state, the individual cannot spread the infection to others, and they feel healthy. However, the bacteria can become active later, leading to active TB disease if not treated. LTBI is diagnosed through specific tests, such as the tuberculin skin test or blood tests, and usually requires treatment to prevent future development of active TB. It’s a hidden form of infection that can be managed effectively with proper medical care.
