Latch mechanisms

A latch mechanism is a device used to securely hold two objects together, such as a door and its frame, until intentionally released. It typically consists of a metal or plastic component (the latch) that extends into a catch or strike plate to prevent movement. When you activate the latch—by turning a handle, pressing a button, or using a key—it disengages from the catch, allowing the object to open or move. Latches are common in doors, cabinets, and containers, providing both security and ease of access while ensuring the objects stay connected during use.
