Lasius

Lasius is a genus of ants commonly found in many parts of the world, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. These ants are usually small, often black or brown, and live in colonies underground, under rocks, or within decaying wood. They are social insects, working together to gather food, care for their young, and protect their colony. Lasius ants primarily feed on sweet substances like honeydew produced by other insects or plant nectar. They play important roles in ecosystems by aerating soil and helping decompose organic material. Some species, like Lasius neglectus, can become invasive and disrupt local environments.
