Laryngeal Cancer Surgery

Laryngeal cancer surgery involves removing cancerous tissue from the voice box (larynx). Depending on the cancer's size and location, the surgery may range from removing part of the larynx (partial laryngectomy) to removing the entire voice box (total laryngectomy). The goal is to eliminate cancer while preserving as much natural function as possible. After a total laryngectomy, patients breathe through a stoma in their neck. These procedures can impact speech and swallowing, but many patients regain these functions with therapy. Surgery is often combined with other treatments like radiation to improve outcomes.
