Larval source management

Larval source management (LSM) involves controlling mosquito populations by targeting their breeding sites where they lay eggs and larvae develop. This includes measures such as inspecting and eliminating standing water, applying larvicides to water bodies, and introducing biological control agents like fish that eat mosquito larvae. LSM aims to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes, which spread diseases like malaria and dengue, by interrupting their life cycle early. It is a strategic, environmentally conscious approach that complements other vector control methods to help prevent mosquito-borne illnesses.
