Large intestine
The large intestine, or colon, is the final part of your digestive system. Its main role is to absorb water and salts from the remaining food matter after digestion in the small intestine. It also forms and stores stool until it's ready to be eliminated. The large intestine houses bacteria that help break down certain substances and produce vitamins. Its structure includes the cecum, colon, rectum, and anus. Overall, it helps maintain fluid balance, supports immune function, and plays a crucial part in waste elimination.
