Langue d'oc

Langue d'oc, also known as Occitan, is a Romance language spoken primarily in the south of France, as well as parts of Italy and Spain. It emerged during the Middle Ages and was the medium for a rich tradition of poetry and literature. The term "langue d'oc" refers to the word "oc," meaning "yes" in Occitan, distinguishing it from "langue d'oïl," which is the ancestor of modern French. Today, Occitan is recognized as a regional language, with efforts to preserve and promote it amidst the dominance of French.
