Language Transfer
Language transfer is a process where a person’s existing knowledge of their native language influences how they learn or use a new language. This can lead to similarities, such as applying grammatical rules or pronunciation patterns from the first language to the second. Sometimes, this helps with learning; other times, it causes errors or misunderstandings. Essentially, it's the brain using familiar language patterns to make sense of a new language, which can both aid and complicate language acquisition.
