Language isolate
A language isolate is a language that has no known relationship to any other existing language. This means it cannot be linked through common ancestors or shared roots with any other language family. Such languages are unique and stand alone, with their origins and development separate from other languages. Examples include Basque in Europe and the Ainu language in Japan. Linguists study these languages to understand language history and diversity, as isolates provide insight into ancient languages and human migration patterns.
