Language development stages
Language development progresses through several key stages. First, infants begin by cooing and making sounds around 2 months. Then, they start babbling, combining consonant and vowel sounds by about 4-6 months. Around 12 months, children often say their first words. Between 1 and 2 years, vocabulary rapidly expands, and simple sentences form. By ages 3-4, children use more complex sentences and grammar. Throughout childhood, language skills continue to refine, enabling better communication, understanding of rules, and more nuanced expression, supporting social and academic growth.
