Language and Social Identity (theory)

The Language and Social Identity theory suggests that the way we speak and the language choices we make are closely linked to our sense of who we are and the groups we belong to. Our language reflects our cultural background, social class, ethnicity, or community, helping us express our identity and connect with others. Conversely, the language we use can also reinforce social boundaries and group membership. Essentially, language acts as a marker of identity, shaping how we see ourselves and are seen by others, fostering a sense of belonging or differentiation within social contexts.
