Langerin

Langerin is a protein found on the surface of special immune cells called Langerhans cells, which are part of the body's first line of defense against invaders like bacteria and viruses. Its main job is to recognize and capture harmful substances, such as microbes, by binding to specific molecules. Once captured, Langerhans cells help initiate the immune response, alerting other immune cells to fight the infection. Langerin also plays a role in clearing out dead or damaged cells, helping maintain healthy skin and tissue.
