Landsknechts

Landsknechts were mercenary soldiers in the Holy Roman Empire from the late 15th to the 16th centuries. Known for their distinctive, colorful clothing and two-handed swords, they played a significant role in European warfare during the Renaissance. These troops were often hired by princes and city-states for battles and sieges. Their skills in pike and musket tactics made them formidable on the battlefield. Landsknechts were also notable for their camaraderie and unique culture, which included specific codes of conduct and a strong sense of identity as soldiers for hire.
