Land Reform Movement

The Land Reform Movement aimed to redistribute land from wealthy landowners to poorer farmers to promote equitable access and reduce poverty. Historically, large landowners held most of the land, leaving small farmers with little or no land, which limited their livelihood and economic growth. The movement involved government policies to break up large estates, impose land ceilings, and provide land rights to landless or small-scale farmers. The goal was to create a fairer agrarian system, improve agricultural productivity, and ensure that more people benefited from land resources.
