Land Grabs

Land grabs refer to the large-scale acquisition or leasing of land by governments, companies, or individuals, often surpassing local communities' rights or needs. These deals usually occur in developing countries, where foreign investors seek land for agriculture, mining, or biofuel production. While sometimes presented as economic development, land grabs can lead to displacement of local farmers, loss of livelihoods, and environmental degradation. They highlight issues of land sovereignty, fairness, and sustainable development, often raising concern about who's benefiting versus who is affected by these land transactions.
