Land Art Movement

The Land Art Movement emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, emphasizing art created directly in and with natural landscapes. Artists used the environment—earth, rocks, soil, plants—to craft large-scale works that often altered or interacted with the landscape itself. These pieces challenge traditional art by existing outside galleries, encouraging viewers to experience nature and environmental processes firsthand. Land art emphasizes harmony with nature, environmental awareness, and the relationship between humans and the environment, making the landscape itself an integral part of the artwork.
