Lakes and Wetlands
Lakes and wetlands are vital parts of our ecosystem. Lakes are large bodies of freshwater surrounded by land, providing habitats for numerous species and sources of drinking water, recreation, and agriculture. Wetlands are areas where water is present near the surface of the soil for at least part of the year, such as marshes, swamps, and bogs. They act as natural filters, trapping pollutants and supporting diverse plant and animal life. Both ecosystems play crucial roles in maintaining biodiversity, controlling floods, and supporting climate regulation by storing carbon.
