Lake Van

Lake Van is the largest inland saltwater lake in Turkey and one of the largest high-altitude lakes in the world, located in the eastern part of the country. Sitting about 1,640 meters (5,380 feet) above sea level, it spans approximately 3,755 square kilometers (1,450 square miles). The lake is known for its unique saline and alkaline waters, which support a variety of specialized plants and animals. Its surroundings feature volcanic landscapes, historic ruins, and vibrant local cultures. Lake Van plays an important ecological, cultural, and economic role for the region.
