Lake Magadi
Lake Magadi is a shallow, alkaline lake located in southern Kenya. It is known for its bright red color caused by high salt and mineral concentrations. The lake forms in a depression where water from nearby rivers and rainfall collects, but it evaporates quickly due to the hot climate, leaving behind salts and minerals. It’s an important habitat for flamingos and other wildlife that thrive in its alkaline environment. Lake Magadi also has economic significance due to its mineral deposits, particularly soda ash, which is used in manufacturing glass and detergents.
