Laing's Kingsley Hall
Kingsley Hall was a social experiment led by psychiatrist R.D. Laing from 1957 to 1970, designed to treat mental health issues through community and non-traditional methods. Located in London, it fostered an environment where people experiencing mental distress could live, express themselves, and recover without the usual hospital treatment. Instead of medication and confinement, residents received support through group therapy, creative activities, and peer interactions, emphasizing understanding, acceptance, and the individual's personal experience. Kingsley Hall aimed to challenge conventional psychiatric practices and explore how social connections and a supportive community could aid mental health recovery.
