Lahars

Lahars are destructive volcanic mudflows that occur when volcanic material, like ash and pumice, mixes with water from rain or melting snow. This mixture flows down the slopes of a volcano, often following river valleys, and can travel at high speeds. Lahars can pick up debris, rocks, and trees, causing significant damage to anything in their path, including buildings and infrastructure. They pose a serious hazard in volcanic regions, particularly after eruptions or during heavy rainfall, as they can occur with little warning and affect large areas quickly.
