Laestadianism
Laestadianism is a conservative Christian revival movement that originated in the 19th century in Scandinavia, founded by Lars Levi Laestadius. It emphasizes intense personal faith, repentance, and a strict moral code rooted in the Bible. Members often practice a simple, disciplined lifestyle, avoid alcohol, tobacco, and sexuality outside of marriage, and participate in close-knit community worship. The movement has spread mainly in Finland, Scandinavia, and North America, maintaining traditional beliefs while emphasizing humility, communal support, and spiritual renewal. It is distinct from mainstream Lutheranism, reflecting a focus on personal salvation and moral integrity.
