Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that Canadian employers must obtain before hiring a foreign worker. It proves that hiring a temporary foreign worker will not negatively affect the local job market and that there are no qualified Canadian citizens or residents available for the position. The LMIA process involves demonstrating efforts to hire locally and showing that the employment of the foreign worker benefits the employer and the economy. Once approved, the foreign worker can apply for a work permit to work legally in Canada.
