Label Distribution Protocol (LDP)
Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) is a networking protocol used in MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) networks to establish and exchange labels between routers. These labels are short identifiers that direct data packets along predefined paths efficiently. LDP helps routers communicate and agree on which labels to assign to different network routes, enabling faster data forwarding and traffic management. Think of LDP as a system where routers share shortcut codes for routes so they can quickly and smoothly send data without always examining the full destination address, optimizing network performance and scalability.
