La Victoire de Samothrace
La Victoire de Samothrace, also known as the Winged Victory of Samothrace, is a magnificent ancient Greek sculpture from around 200–190 BCE. It depicts the Greek goddess Nike, symbolizing victory, with dynamic wings spread wide and flowing drapery that appears to be caught in motion. The sculpture was originally placed on the island of Samothrace to celebrate a naval victory. Its craftsmanship captures both strength and grace, and the missing head adds a sense of mystery. Today, it’s celebrated as a masterpiece of Hellenistic art and is displayed prominently in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
